Women in Cardiology

We are thrilled to announce our bi-annual gathering of female members of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s a celebration of excellence in research, education, and patient care.  This month we come together in Vancouver for a wonderful dinner. where we invite our accomplished colleagues to share their inspiring stories in the field of cardiology.

This event is a great opportunity to celebrate our experiences and to strengthen our community of powerful women cardiologists. Join us in celebrating the achievements and stories of our incredible female cardiologists!

On Wednesday, March 5th, 2025 our UBC Division of Cardiology will celebrate our 3rd annual Women in Cardiology Evening.

We are so glad to have Dr. Martha Gulati be our guest speaker for this evening.  Dr. Gulati is Canadian and completed medical school at the University of Toronto, Canada.  She went on to complete her internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago.  She received a Masters’ in Science at the University of Chicago and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Society for Preventive Cardiology & the European Society of Cardiology.

Dr. Gulati is the immediate Past President of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. She is a professor of cardiology at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles and is the director of prevention, the associate director of the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center and holds the Anita Dann Friedman Endowed Chair in Women’s Cardiovascular Medicine and Research.

She is the author of the best-seller, “Saving Women’s Hearts”.

Dr. Gulati will share with us that evening a wonderful talk titled “Women in Cardiology – Advise to My Younger Self”.  We look forward to meeting with all our female division members to celebrate a stimulating evening of discussion, connection and building relationships.

Dr. Gulati will present from St. Paul’s Hospital our Grand Rounds on Thursday, March 6th, 2025 at 8:00 am: “Women & Cardiovascular Disease – Is there really a sex difference”.

Objectives:

  1. To identify how traditional Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease risk factors differ by sex.
  2. Understand how traditional risk scores do not include sex-specific CVD risk factors.
  3. To identify sex-specific risk factors in women increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
  4. Identify sex-specific risk factors across the lifespan of a women.
